Since 2004, the DECANT Clothes Industries Group has been supporting an association grouping friends and parents of disabled children in Madagascar, called « Les Orchidées Blanches ».

The association sprung from the initiative of a few parents and professionals who were faced with the issue of  mental handicap.
Given the big number of people affected by this problem, it was an urgent need to establish a center for accommodating them and providing them with special support.
 
Thirty-five years after its inception, the association has much developed and is currently a reference in the field of care and support to people with mental disability in Madagascar.
The center’s main objectives are to provide education to mentally disabled children from their earliest years and to optimize the social and professional integration of young intellectually deficient adults.
 
In line with these objectives, various support services were set up:
 
·        Specific support for children under 7 years old,
·        Education and socio-vocational guidance preparing to integration into the labor world,
·        Assistance through adapted work, and service allowing adults to be involved in income-generating activities,
·        Sports and leisure clubs,
·        Assistance to families,
·        Medico-psychological consulting service.
 
The center currently accommodates more than 100 beneficiaries and more than 1,500 people with mental disability have benefited from the association.

Our social policy
 The DECANT Clothes Industries Group has defined a social policy which aims at being a model in the industrial community. Beside the implementation of a payroll policy that exceeds legal requirements and general practices in the textile sector in Madagascar, ARAWAK and DEMAD have set up services that improve the living and working conditions of their employees.
 
Integrated medical service
A physician with a dedicated office and pharmacy is available to the staff within the company’s premises.
 
Breastfeeding room
 A user-friendly breastfeeding room is available to young mothers, enabling them to breastfeed their newborns in a comfortable and hygienic setting.
 
Canteen
 Our staff enjoys varied and balanced meals in the nice setting of our canteen.

During a ceremony held on 30 April 2010, DEMAD presented 25 of its employees with long-service medals and certificates in recognition of their 15 years of work. The photos of the event were online in the “Activities” section.

DEMAD donates thousands pieces of clothes to the humanitarian association AKAMASOA as part of its charity activities.

At the beginning of school year 2009, DEMAD offers all staff members with children the possibility to get 0% interest rate loan in order to improve their capacity to pay for their children’s education expenditures.

ARAWAK improves its canteen service by hiring a catering service that serves varied and balanced meals to the entire staff.

DEMAD is audited by the certifier organism SGS as part of setting up of its “social and environmental” code of conduct. The audit results were positive for both companies in the group, ARAWAK and DEMAD, who subsequently were awarded SGS compliance certificates.

Upon an initiative by staff representatives, DEMAD organizes a full day recreational outing with all the staff and their families at Analamanga Park, 26km south to Antananarivo. The outing was an occasion for picnics, hikes, live shows, sport meetings, music, and dances.
